When you are not logged in the reply button below each answer is broken. Users coming back to a thread (who are not logged in already) will have no way of replying to their own thread. This might be a fall out of bug 911833. The solved rate in the forum dropped significantly after landing that.

It is clear that we forgot about the original asker in making these changes. In the future, this should be A/B tested. It looks like a simple change with good intentions but now we have a problem.
The issue here is that the reply button won't sign you in, it will only scroll down. I didn't test that path. A/B testing this change would have been hard. We would have to mark user comments as going either through one or the other flow, and it would require us to follow a few hundred threads, as the goal was to reduce the amount of people who chime in, who'd be better served by asking a new question. However, we should have implemented this behind a flag. It is a user facing change. It looked like a simple change in wording, but turned out to be more than that.

Let's go with a change in wording to fix this issue. Instead of "If you want to join us in helping users, sign up as a contributor." it should say "You must [log in to your account] to reply to posts. Please [start a new question], if you don't have an account yet."

We'd still have the buttons to encourage people to ask a new question or mark it as "me too" and the thread starter gets clear instructions on how to reply. Most people post persona should already be sign-ed in anyway.

Ricky, you sure that's the right PR?
