918972 - Spellchecker: red line under wrong word disappears after 'paste'

Basically if you copy a word from the message editor and paste it somewhere near underlined (wrong) word, the red line under the wrong word will disappear.
I've create two screencasts with examples.

Steps to reproduce:
1. type "hello everbody!"
2. press Enter twice, type "not"
3. copy this "not" and paste it just before "everbody" (to get "noteverbody")
4. result -> no red line under "noteverbody"

Can you reproduce this with TB 38 or TB 45 (Earlybird)? I can't.

Most likely fixed in bug 1100966 and bug 1154791 (Gecko39/40). Fixes backported to TB 38 in
bug 1159817 and bug 1159815.

Now it's even funnier.
1. paste next to "everbody" to get "noteverbody" -> "everbody"-part has underline, "not" doesn't have
2. if you paste next to "hello" to get "hellonot" -> "hellonot" doesn't have underline, "everbody" has.

So, now red underlines instead of disappearing just don't appear. I think this bug description should be changed but not sure if it worth anything since Mozilla finally fully abandoned TB.

Thanks for the confirmation. Spellchecking is a Mozilla core function. I will attach a web page that reproduces the problem.

I'm wondering whether the bug here is a duplicate of bug 336719 or bug 497511. Note the nice example in bug 758267 comment #0.

Hm.. I can't reproduce anything from the bugs you mentioned (in my TB). Even "the nice example". Not sure about Fx because i stopped updating since v31esr.

As I said now it doesn't disappear in my TB, it won't appear when it should.

The spell check functionality is core functionality used in Firefox and Thunderbird. It can only be fixed using examples in *Firefox*. As far as I can see, the examples also reproduce in a TB composition window (I'm using TB 45). Note that you need to switch to paragraph format for the second test.
