Just upgraded to Thunderbird v24 and when you start scrolling thru a large list of emails in any folder, the pane will suddenly go all white and you cannot see the list of emails anymore as they have vanished. Moving the mouse over the pane will cause each row in the list to become visible again as the mouse passes over each row. I disabled all addons and the problem went away. After testing each addon, one at a time, it turns out to be Lightning v2.6 that is causing the problem. I am using Thunderbird v24 on Mac OS X 10.8.5 Mountain Lion. Possibly related issues (sounds similar): https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=879419 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=516176
