**** observed with 2001-07-23-0.9.2 build **** Steps to reproduce: - go to this german newsgroup on news.mcom.com server ( de.test); - go to Search|Messages Mail/News; - enter "ö" as aserach criteria for Subject; //note: there is no match found, this is not true for ascii search
i forgot to mention that same is true for Sender

when it is offline ( local) it is working. It is not working online, doesn't it have the same functionality as an IMAP server?
No, it's not. Non ASCII is not really supported for news. This is probably possible when servers start to accept unicode for a query. Here is a draft. http://search.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-nntpext-base-13.txt cc to momoi
