RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 951618

People

(Reporter: pierre.decrocq, Unassigned)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 10.0; Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; Trident/6.0; SLCC2; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729; .NET4.0E; .NET4.0C)

Steps to reproduce:

Using default settings there is no close button ("x") when only one tab is displayed.
workarounds like Ctrl-W and changing settings to set the browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab pref to false are not good solutions.

Actual results:

No close button on last tab

Expected results:

Have an option to have a close button on last tab and that button should close tab AND browser (like in chrome)
Component: Untriaged → Menus
Component: Menus → Tabbed Browser
Thanks Loïc for helping categorise this request.
Note : I.E. also behaves like this.

Addl information : when user is closing tabs w/mouse, he needs to change to keyboard to select Ctrl-W and close last tab, or move (long way) to window close button.
In either case, several seconds are lost, while not switching clicking tab close button would have made it
I'm not sure devs want to mix the 2 levels "tab" and "window" (a tab closing the entire window), so that's why this option exists, but not by default, only for advanced users aware of about:config.
Yeah but the config option allows to have the close button on a single tab, but it doesn't close the window.
What could be a solution is to add an option "CloseLastTabClosesWindow" that would default to false but would behave as it says.
Much better would be to be able to manage this option in UI...
I consider this would be useful so I'm marking as an enhancement request.

Ok for duplicate but why close ? Is this feature implemented ? In which release ?

Use the pref in about config.

The pref in about config doesn't do that.

Fixed in Fx31, I did just look and run Firefox 31 to confirm this myself.

This bug was marked as a duplicate of bug724555, and in turn of bug951618.
That has been fixed in Firefox 31

If you wish to check then Firefox 31 is on the Nightly channel and can be downloaded from http://nightly.mozilla.org/
If you do so you may wish to install that as an additional browser with its own profile as explained in this article: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Testing_pre-release_versions#Installing_multiple_versions

You will have noticed It is usual practice to close bugs once the code is fixed and shown to work, without waiting for the fix to run all the way through Aurora, Beta and then the Release. If all goes to plan expect to see this in the Release in July (see https://wiki.mozilla.org/RapidRelease/Calendar )

You may be willing to close this bug now. I hope you enjoy the new feature.
