The "get involved" banner on the side of the landing page, just below the fold looks like an ad. It should be removed.

It prevents the user's subconscious ad filter from triggering.

Thanks for sharing your feedback, Chris. Many people have been requesting this, so there will is going to be some hesitation to removing it. But you raise a good point. We should take another look at how this is perceived by our users.

Now that Australis is out the door, I'm open to doing a round 2 of MDN homepage design edits. I have thoughts. Should we perhaps look into doing a small design audit based on feedback since launch?

I agree, for what it's worth. We should do a few tweaks; we've had lots of time to judge what works, what doesn't work, and what could use a nudge.
