Details

(Whiteboard: [bugday-20131007])

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:24.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/24.0 (Beta/Release)
Build ID: 20130911164256

Steps to reproduce:

Middle-click-to-paste in the search box while there's already something there.

Actual results:

The pasted text was appended to what was already there.

Expected results:

It would be preferable that the middle-click would clear the box before pasting.

The search box is awesome, but if I've used it at all today, it always has something in it already. Since I often use the middle-click-to-paste feature in Linux, this means that I can't easily clear the box without overwriting my clipboard, and given that I was about to use the string in my clipboard in that search box... you can imagine my frustration.

Ideally, the box would capture my use of the middle-click and automatically clear the contents of the box before pasting.

Alternately, an "x" icon could be used to clear the contents with the left-click before using the middle-click. Google Translate uses a similar function on their site.
