Branch build 2001-07-26-03: Mac 9.04 Overview: When the login dialog appears, type the password, select the checkbox to save the password, press OK and the dialog explaining how to enable encryption gives the wrong instructions. Actual Results: The instructions for encrypting say to go to Preferences, select Advanced, Password. Expected Results: The instructions should reference the correct instructions. Currently it appears to be Preferences, Privacy and Security, Web Passwords.

Marking nsbeta1 because instructions for enabling encryption should be clear.

The attachment N621_pwd_alert.gif shows the current dialog. Note that it doesn't include any instructions--the window is smaller than it was before and therefore the last paragraph, which gives the (wrong) instructions referred to by this bug, doesn't show up.

By comparison, the attachment N61_pwd_alert.gif shows the dialog presented by Netscape 6.1 RTM, which includes the offending paragraph.

Now that I look more closely at the paragraph presented by Netscape 6.1 RTM, it actually is correct. Must have got fixed via another bug or something, and then somehow the window got shrunk. So the solution is to expand the window so the paragraph shows up again. The only text modification needed is to change "Privacy and Security" to "Privacy & Security" (to match the current UI) so it reads like this: To password protect stored information, choose Preferences from the Edit menu, open the Privacy & Security category, choose Web Passwords, and check "Use encryption when storing sensitive data."

This report is confusing. The first attachment shows the dialog as it currently appears and the second show it as it was in 6.1. Note that the paragraph that gives these instructions has been removed. That was done so intentionally so that we wouldn't have problems when the menu items changed. So there is nothing to fix up since the paragraph no longer exists. There is no "Privacy and Security" that needs to get changed to "Privacy & Security". This bug was valid at one time -- probably when it was first reported. But now it is no longer valid.

Verified Invalid. The latest dialog does not display the misleading instructions so I agree that this is Invalid. But the dialog is very vague. This dialog mentions that for extra security you will want to use a Master Password but doesn't give any clue on how to do this.Bug# 117989 covers this latest issue.
