923800 - nightly does not appear in browser selection lists

a while back, I installed a nightly image from try.  later, I noticed that when opening links from gmail, or the HTC news feed, nightly isn't in in the list of apps.  In fact, nightly isn't even in the list of launchable apps. If I go into the OS's app manager (kill app, uninstall app, etc) it is listed.  this has remained for a few versions of nightly at this point. I am running android 4.1.2, with HTC sense 5 on an HTC one.
The only reason that I can run nightly is that I put it isn't the quick launch bar a long time ago.

Works for me on my HTC One (Android 4.3). What happens with a complete uninstall and reinstall?

See screenshot, I have it listed when tapping a link in Gmail.

I've been avoiding a complete uninstall, since if it does work, whatever state it is currently wedged in will be lost, and we won't be able to diagnose what is wrong with it.

I'm going to chalk this one up to android.  Turns out nightly was just off the screen, but the selection dialog didn't give any visual feedback that scrolling was possible.
