For the past few weeks, I've been noticing that on a hamachi device running v1-train (and I think I saw it on the otoro as well right before switching from otoro to hamachi), the cell network name has no longer been showing up.

I see this primarily on T-Mobile in the US, but I also saw it at while roaming in Toronto. (I don't know what carrier I was roaming on, though, since it didn't show up!)

(I mentioned this to other people in the SF office, and I think somebody else mentioned seeing the same problem -- I think it was Lucas Adamski.)

Steps to reproduce:
 1. press the power button on a locked phone to show the lock screen
 2. look at the text above the clock
 3. look at the cell state indicator ("E", "3G", "H") next to the battery indicator

Actual results:
 2. shows either "Searching..." or "No network" or "Emergency calls only"
 3. cell state is "H" (HSDPA, 3.5G), which doesn't match (2)

Expected results (where differs from actual results):
 2. shows "T-Mobile"

I bisected what change caused this regression, and I found that the cause is bug 905889. In other words, locally reverting the gaia changes shown in:

> git diff -r 6231c3540d33d4cc1e8b914dbfe119a561a9911c..6d9eec501a209bea945c6f841400ec0a75fac11d

makes the bug go away and restores the correct behavior.
This bug sounds related to the problems being discussed in bug 923473, which also identifies the same bug you have cited as the regressing patch.
