This problem occurs with both skins (Modern/Classic) but is more
noticeable under Classic. In addition, I can only reproduce this issue
under Mac OS X (10.0.4).

I see the problem. I can get the display corrupted in various ways, but
collapsing and expanding the toolbar always fixes it. This looks just liek the
screen corruption I see in the 'new mail' compose window when I go to write a
new mail message - the chrome areas are not fully painted unless I collapse the
toolbar and expand it. Hiding / exposing it does not help.
My guess, and it is just a guess, is that there are view problems. I tested this
pretty carefully in OS 9.1 and on Windows and Linux and it is specific to MAC OS X
