Summary: Characters menu appears behind search results in the search bar → [10.8] Characters menu appears behind search results in the search bar
Interestingly, when I perform the STR from comment #0 (in yesterday's m-c nightly on OS X 10.8.5) the special characters menu opens above the search bar, and so doesn't get obscured. But I can see from your screenshot that it does get obscured when it appears below the search bar. There may not be anything we can do about this, at least directly. However it may be worthwhile looking for a way to guarantee that the special characters menu always appears above the text-input cursor. That way it won't get obscured by any drop-down list (displayed by a combo-box).
Just tried the STR from comment #0 again, this time with the browser window as far up on the screen as I could move it. This time the special characters menu *was* displayed below the search bar (and was obscured by its drop-down list), even though there was still plenty of room above it.
