This was not a feature in 1.1. I have noticed this issue exist with both an Gmail and Outlook account setup on the device on seperate instances.

If the user stops reading the email message, will they get the notification? I need a better understanding of how often this is going to happen in the email app generally.

When going back to the Inbox folder - the user will not get a notification of the email. I have to manually refresh before even being able to see a new message.

Sounds like this is a broken 1.2 feature then if you aren't receiving notifications for new mail while within the email app.

WFM?
You should not get one of the new notifications if you are already in the email app. If you are on the inbox and looking at the list of emails, when the sync happens you should see the blue bar appear at the top of the screen informing you that new mail has arrived. If you are actively reading an email, you will see the blue bar when you next return to the email list.
I am able to see that behavior correctly without any need for manual sync. Based on comment #2 it sounds like that is not happening for you. James, do you see anything interesting in the logs here?

Using the information in comment 6, can you check if you can see a blue bar indicating new mail has arrived when running this STR?

Hello -
I just logged into a Gmail account and had my notification timer to 5 minutes on a Buri device with 1.2 Build: 20131106004004. As observed, there is no notification while viewing an Email message. When returning to the Inbox, the user will experience a blue bar indicating a new mail.

This sounds like we're doing the right behavior then based on Dylan's comments & the reporter's confirmation then - we're not supposed to get a notification prompt in the status bar, but rather get the blue status bar in the use cases cited. As such, this is invalid.
