Here is a test project: https://zinko.makes.org/popcorn/1iyj

It looks like our events trigger properly (loadedmetadata, etc) but for some reason no audio is ever present. That project in particular actually has the video flagged off.

Yay Safari!
I think this is the power save plugin at work. Let me confirm this.

Yep, this is the power save plugin at work. If you turn it off in Preferences -> Advanced -> Stop plug-ins to save power then any Popcorn make will work fine.
I think to solve this, we'll need to make the youtube video visible :/

Can we detect the power save plugin? Is it built into Safari?

I don't know how wide spread this problem is, but, it sounds fairly fringy.
It's built into Mac OS 10.9 / Safari 7, and enabled by default. So, every single user of Safari, basically.
The only real solutions are basically....

1) If Safari is in use, make the YouTube video display above everything. Hopefully we could make it a temporary thing and make the UI go back to normal.
2) Warn people to turn this off and say sorry otherwise?
