Mozilla hangs and/or crashes for me whenever I go to certain flash/shockwave pages. I can reproduce this by going to http://www.coolrides.cc or http://www.stickdeath.com/ Netscape 4.77 renders these pages fine. This is all I get after turning on debugging: open popup Document http://www.coolrides.cc/ loaded successfully

reporter: Which build are you using ? Can you attach a stack trace or a talkback ID# ?

I'm using the mozilla-0.9.3-0 Redhat 7.x rpm. If you can point me to a doc on how to do the stack trace and/or talkback id thing, I'll be happy to.
This WFM on 2001080209/Linux trunk build. For talkback: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/nightly/ Install talkback.xpi out of a linux-xpi directory and restart browser (or you can just install a talkback build and skip this step). Now make the browser crash again and write down the talkback ID. If you already submitted a talkback, just run it (from <MOZDIR>/components/talkback) and you should get a list of submitted incidents with their IDs.

Installed the talk back tar.gz version: mozilla-i686-pc-linux-gnu-0.9.3-installer.tar.gz and cannot reproduce the error. However, the rpm build still reproduces on both sites.

I can't seem to get a trace because installing the talkback version doesn't let me reproduce the crash. And it's almost always a hang and not a crash..but it hangs for over 5 minutes and you have to kill it by hand. I could strace it if you like?

I just uploaded an strace..not sure if that's what you need. Doing:strace -fo /var/tmp/flash-crash.strace /usr/bin/mozilla hangs. Doing: strace -o /var/tmp/flash-crash.strace /usr/bin/mozilla ends before giving interesting results. So I picked the top mozilla pid and strace -fp'd it. Let me know if you're interested in something more specific and I'll be happy to run it for ya.

I am now able to reproduce on the talkback enabled .tar.gz. After installing the java.xpi, any java page or flash/shockwave page will cause mozilla to hang.

WFM linux 0.9.3... I said no to the cookie, and don't have the flash plugin installed. Report wasn't clear is it crashes just on any flash page, or trying to actually run flash.

Yes, it definitely works fine if the flash plugin is not installed. It also works fine if the flash plugin is installed, but the java plugin is not installed. Installing the java plugin makes the browser hang on shockwave/flash pages such as: http://www.coolrides.cc/ or http://www.stickdeath.com/ so that it must be killed.

Was that Redhat 7.1? I doubt it should matter, but for what it's worth, I am running on a Dell Inspiron 7500 laptop. I have a seemingly related problem with Konqueror, in that shockwave pages crash the browser. We have another machine which is a desktop which exhibits the konqueror problem, and we will see if we can reproduce the mozilla bug as well.

I was able to reproduce it on another system. I installed the talkback version of mozilla 0.9.3. I then installed the flash plugin in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins, and then installed java by going to java.sun.com and clicking ok to get the plugin, and then clicking on java for linux. After the install completed going to java.sun.com or www.coolrides.cc or www.stickdeath.com causes the program to hang. Installed on redhat 7.1

Well, after further investigation, it appears that it is the java plugin which is causing the crashes. After removing the flash plugin, I still get reproducible hangs going to java.sun.com or www.coolrides.cc. I've been able to reproduce this on 3 workstations here. Also, all machines are running kde-2.1.1
Summary: Mozilla crashes on flash pages → Mozilla crashes with java plugin
