Details
From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win 9x 4.90; en-US; rv:0.9.2+) Gecko/20010803
BuildID: 20010803
It seems that recent Win32 trunk builds do not copy the five Sun Java Plug-in
DLLs into Mozilla/Plugins folder. Tested on WindowsME with Sun 1.3.1 and
1.3.0_02 plug-ins. Mozilla0.9.3 builds copy the files as expected.
Reproducible: Always

FYI, this worked at least as recently as 20010729.

Does this happens when you were prompted to download java plugin?

Yes, it still happens: Win32 trunk installer build 2001081003 on WindowsME &
Java JRE 1.3.0_02. I do not use 1.3.1 because of Java crashes. I've seen this
mnow on two separate computers. The fact that I recently downgraded Java on both
(from 1.3.1) may be relevant. I did the downgrade right: removing the old
version (plus manually removing the plug-in DLLs) before installing the new.

I can't belive that mozilla 0.9.3 will copy required files
while some other version of mozilla will not (of course,
with same jre installer).
All jre.xpi contains is jre.exe (JRE installer) and
install.js, which only action is to launch jre.exe
These DLLs needs to be copied manually to finish
installasion of java plugin.
There is a couple of ways this problem can be solved,
but, IMHO, this is not OJI bug. ('Installer: XPI packages'?)

Workaround: set "plugin.do_JRE_Plugin_Scan" pref. to true, to make mozilla
grab those DLLs from jre installation directory, so you don't need to copy them
to plugins dir.

Bug 93554 was filed on the Sun Java DDLs *being* copied to the plugin directory
on Mozilla install. The two bugs (this one and 93554) contradict each other. I
do not mean only in the direction we should head but also on the present behavior.

In both 0.9.5 and 0.9.6, I had to copy the DLL's from D:\Program
Files\JavaSoft\JRE\1.3.1\bin into D:\Program
Files\mozilla.org\Mozilla0.9.6\Plugins to get Java applets to work. This is
much as the release notes suggest (the list of NP*.dll's is slightly different),
but it seems Mozilla should recognize my stock JRE 1.3.1_01 installation.

Just as a note, you don't need all five DLLs. You only need NPOJI600.dll.

Please look at http://gemal.dk/mozilla/java.html and see if that doesn't help you.
If it does please close this bug...

Re #13:
Yes, this helps. I am doing the procedure over and over for the last few months.
However that is the point of the bug.
Re #14:
I'm not sure this is a duplicate of bug 100393. Not verifying the dup.
