DESCRIPTION: Left edge of text is overlapping a border. STEPS TO REPRODUCE: 1. goto http://slashdot.org/ 2. The right border of the "Sections" box is overlapped by the article text if a word beginning with a "f" or "y" in italics is first on the line. (you may have to resize the window width to see it). ACTUAL RESULTS: Border is overlapped by 1-2 pixels from the left edge of the word. EXPECTED RESULTS: No overlap. DOES NOT WORK CORRECTLY ON: Mozilla nightly build 2001-08-01-03 on Windows 98 SE. IE5.0 also has the same bug but it draws the border over the text instead.

In this testcase, you can also see the italic "f" escaping from its border at the end of the line. It looks like the <span>/line box isn't being sized properly for the font.

dbaron, bz says this is normal behavior for italic fonts. "This is what padding is for. People should use it." Could you confirm that this is INVALID?
