Details 
With the expansion of SCL3, our rows/racks are getting renamed so the hardware whose names are location dependent must change too. I spoke to fox2mike in IRC and this needs to be coordinated with the SRE team. The inventory and labeling part is already done, we need nagios and DNS to be updated.

The target date for this is February, 2014. That's when the "new" r101 and r102 will be entering construction.
that's actually a good opportunity to rename them .ops. instead of .console. (on the switches themselves, inventory can stay console), and add an interfaces in the OPS vlan, so we can have proper monitoring/automation (direct Nagios pings, SNMP, etc...).

Any update? Just making sure this doesn't slip on us.
Good timing, we were just talking about this during today's team meeting. We have a few weeks left to complete this task, and it's basically down to coordination between DCOps and MOC to ensure monitoring is adjusted properly as the hostnames changed.

We'll come up with the official changelist next week and sit down with the MOC to schedule.
:aj, per our discussion, these are the affected nodes. they'll need to have DNS and monitoring updated with their new hostnames. i updated 947122 for access switches that were missing their inband configs.

i've reconfigured all the switches, consoles, oobs and we've also updated inventory.

hi team, any update for this bug? we're planning to move releng's stuff into their module and we're also expecting a 2 rack new install so we'll need the hostnames vacated.

Please fix before we could proceed or provide name swaps (example; switch1-0.r402-7.ops.scl3.mozilla.net -> switch1.r402-7.console.scl3.mozilla.net ) so that they could be updated in inventory.

:aj, for the top of rack switches, hosts that start with switch1.rXXX-X, do you guys monitor the management port or have you guys switched over to the inband address? attached is a list with the updated hostnames. 

the DNS name for the top of rack switches wont have a corresponding inventory entry as the inventory lists the actual members in a the switch stack while the DNS only points to the virtual chassis.
got a 'major' priority install from releng so i went ahead and took care of 10[12]-5.
renamed switch1.r101-11.console.scl3.mozilla.net to switch1.r001-1.console.scl3.mozilla.net
hi team, any update on this bug? netops would like an audit of the network gear and this is blocking it. i renamed a switch that i thought wasnt in nagios and apparently it alerted/paged for something in puppet.

This change has been done in DNS and nagios has been updated!
Please do the inventory in SCL3 whenever you can.
