Hey Jared - I am sorry to inform you that replacing the display in Noise Pop did not work :-( A user came to me just last night and let me know that it was flickering. Here are the only things that I can think of that we have not replaced: - Extron HDMI send box and receive box for Vidyo - ^ their power supplies - Extron HDMI send box and receive box for in table HDMI/VGA - ^ their power supplies - Display power supply Please let us know when you can get back out to help us get to the bottom of this annoying issue ;-)
I booked out Noise Pop this Friday (11/22) all day - would you be able to troubleshoot the room then?

Please use this bug to track issues w/ blinking display in SFO-7N Noise Pop.
I have tested Noise pop. The screen blinking issue has only occured during vidyo calls. Both of the table inputs seem to be working fine. I have spent an hour in a couple of Vidyo calls and the issue occurs randomly in around 20 minute intervals.
@ AVDG - Mike and I just replaced the Vidyo box and the Displayport to HDMI dongle and the screen blinking issue still occurs in Noise Pop :( I am at a loss as to what could be the issue at this point other than wiring - we have literally replaced every component from the Vidyo Box to the Display. We need your guys' expertise to finally figure this one out, please! Let me know when I can book out the room. Thanks again!

Hey Joel, How about Friday morning? Can you book the room out for the morning? Thanks! Jared
Joel, I did some experimenting yesterday with changing resolutions from the Vidyo. Unfortunately, this did also not resolve the issue. I would like to leave a long HDMI temporarily from the Vidyo to the monitor to eliminate the extender and cabling completely. Hoping the room is available while we are onsite on Friday for the Boardroom upgrade. Let us know. Cheers,
Hey John - I booked Noise Pop this Friday from 2-5PM so you guys can troubleshoot. I hope this is enough time.
@John - I am sorry to say that the issue is not resolved even after the re-crimping the cables on 4/4. Wondering if we should move forward with replacing the cables behind the wall (suggested by Guillermo) or testing power to the TV, ect? This has gone on for far too long :( - please advise on the next step.

Sorry to hear that Joel. My next suggestion is that we leave a pre-made cable from the monitor to the Vidyo for a couple days and see if that resolves the issue. If it does, we can try the same test with the extenders, but new wire across the floor. If all of those work fine we can repull the old Avidex cable out and repull something new. Make sense? Jared will reach out to you to follow this procedure and schedule a visit ASAP

John - Jared: This sounds good. Can we do this tastefully so the HDMI cable is not super visible and in the way?
Hey Joel, I can take care of this early Friday morning and I'll certainly do my best to make it discreet. Thanks! Jared
Flags: needinfo?(jaredo)
Jared - thank you for installing the direct HDMI (from Vidyo to display) cable in Noise Pop this morning. We will let you know of the results either way.
Flags: needinfo?(aarono)
Sure thing, Joel! We'll get to the bottom of this, yet!
Jared and friends - just letting you know the screen blinking is still going on :( :( I a am thinking the only thing left is power. What is the next step?
Any update here Jared?
Flags: needinfo?(jaredo)
Hey Joel, Very sorry for the delay on this. Jon and I think maybe we should try to run an extension cord and power the display on the same circuit as the rack. I need to go to MTV2 tomorrow and install the MC3's Aaron has (as per an email he is about to send you) and I can stop into Noise Pop after that. I'm thinking late morning. Does this work or do you need me to wait? My next availability is Tuesday. Thanks! Jared
Flags: needinfo?(jaredo)
From 12PM-1PM tomorrow is the only time avail - so I booked it and invited you to the meeting. Just decline it if it does not work for you.
Hey fellas - I hate to say it, but the screen is still flickering even after replacing power cable on Vidyo box and straight HDMI cable from Vidyo to display. Can we route a new power source and cable to the TV to see if that resolves the issue? Please let me know when you can come out.
Flags: needinfo?(jaredo)
Hey Joel, My calendar shows I'm available tomorrow morning. I'll come on site at 7am and get an extension cord ran behind the rack for the display and I'll see if I have another HDMI long enough to run over, as well. Thanks! Jared
Flags: needinfo?(jaredo)
Thanks Jared - the room has been booked from 7AM to 9AM tomorrow. No HDMI cable is needed, just a new power cable for the TV and a new power run from the rack to the display.
Joel, I watched the screen for 45 minutes again this morning before anything and still did not see a blink. I replaced the power cable to the display and ran it to an extension cord which is plugged in behind the rack. Something to note - Mark Melvin tells me you guys had this same issue with the same display in The Warfield back in 2012. He said NEC sent a new display. Even though we replaced the Noise Pop display with a kitchen display, maybe this problem was with a few of these NEC displays and not just that one. Just a thought. So there are two more things we can try. 1. Switch programming to the other input on the NEC wire appropriately. 2. Buy a new display for Noise Pop Let me know if you or anyone else sees any blinking this morning. As I said, I did not. Thanks! Jared
Thanks Jared, we will let you know. We might just opt for option #2, but I will need to get that approved.
FYI - in the room this morning for a call. Powered up, and immediately on connecting with the other parties there was a green line fiesta on the screen.
Oh no - that is not good :( Thanks for reporting. Zanini - would you mind providing the screen model and serial number in this bug to see if the display is under warranty? If not, we may have to purchase a new display for this room.

Jared - would you mind calling in and seeing if the display is still under warranty? If so, lets get this guy replaced. Otherwise, I will loop back in with the team and figure out how we want to tackle the situation. Thanks!

Hey Jared - Any update here?
Hey Joel, All of the NEC monitors in that space are out of the one year warranty. Let us know what you want to do and we'll move forward. Thanks! Jared
Flags: needinfo?(jaredo)
Guillermo - please advise on how we should move forward here. Here are the last two options presented in comment 21: 1. Switch programming to the other input on the NEC wire appropriately. 2. Buy a new display for Noise Pop

I confirm the problem still exists. Did we replace the display already? Perhaps we can try with a spare if we have one. Could we use the one on the mobile cart in Foxhole for a couple days?
:albert - we have replaced the display w/ the exact model from the common space on the 7th floor SFO. Same issue occurs. If we would like to try out a different display, this would require a visit from AVDG to install/remove the temp. display. Also, the display in the Foxhole is 46" vs 55", which is currently being used. Please advise on best next step.

I would say try the other input, but at this point with all the work that has gone into testing it might be best to replace the display with a Samsung display that we have standardized elsewhere.

Just confirmed with Tim we have two spare Samsung ME55Cs from the MTV2 build. We should try one of these.

Jared/Aaron - lets move forward with replacing the Noise Pop display w/ one of the spare Samsung ME55C. Please let us know what this would entail.
Jared - when can we get this display swapped with one of our loaners? Can we also get the additional display brought to the SFO office at the same time?
Flags: needinfo?(jaredo)
Joel - I'll have to get up with Aaron and team to find time in the schedule. Perhaps early morning sometime next week. We'll discuss ASAP and get back to you. Thanks! Jared
Flags: needinfo?(jaredo)
Any update here Jared?
HDMI and DVI inputs have been swapped on the display this morning by AVDG - I will ask those who use the room to provide me feedback on the screen blinking. Joel
Screen is still blinking even after source swap - I will loop in with Albert for a next step reg. swapping out displays.
Aw. Still blinking on Vidyo? Or on the table input?
Vidyo
We are moving forward with swapping out the display - quote has been signed and sent over to you, Aaron.
Flags: needinfo?(aarono)
Signed quote received; this will be scheduled by Jared next week.

Hey Jared - I have yet to hear back. Can you please let me know when the display swap will be scheduled so I can block out the room? Thanks!
Flags: needinfo?(jaredo)
Hey Joel, Sorry, we just scheduled yesterday and I didn't get to you yet. We're going to get in there first thing Friday morning and swap the display. So most likely we'll need the room from 6-8am. Thanks! Jared
Flags: needinfo?(jaredo)
Jared - I booked out Noise Pop from 6-8AM this Friday, June 20th and added you to the invite. Please update this bug if that time slot is not going to work out.
Hey Guys - thank you for swapping out the displays. I will be here in the next couple of hours to test it out and will also ask those who frequent the room to provide feedback as well. Non the less, the picture looks MUCH better on these displays vs. NEC.
Thank you Jared. Did you find any other issues that may be the result of the display blinking? Joel, do you think it will be good to post a sign in the room that let's folks know we'd like them to use the QR code or open a bug to Audio/Visual Infrastructure to let us know if the display blinks again? Probably good if we post that right under the display itself. Unless there's a systemic way to alert for this, I presume a manual way is probably best for now.
Albert - Sign has been put up underneath the display to open a Service Now request with the Service Desk team (link included). There has been no blinking in the past 1.5 hours, though, which is a start of a good sign.
Joel, No worries! Let us know how it goes. Albert, No signs of anything obvious. I have a good feeling the monitor was the issue. Thanks! Jared
Making this bug as resolved. I have not heard of or seen this display blink at all since the display replacement. Woot!!
