Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:23.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/23.0 (Beta/Release)
Build ID: 20130803215302

Steps to reproduce:

1. I edited a TODO entry
2. Save&Close
3. Noticed that somehow my changes didn't make it (this part is not reproduceable), and that half of the entry was gone (even parts that weren't new)
4. I opened the same entry again, to redo those changes (or at least those that I remembered...)
5. Save&Close
6. A dialog popped saying there was a save conflict, listing the version how it is now in the DB, and asking whether to "Discard my changes and reload" or "Submit my changes anyways"

Actual results:

The text of the version to be changed is not copy-pastable

Expected results:

It should be possible to copy-paste the version I am attempting to change, so that I can select "Discard my changes and reload" in order to merge the changes of both edits. As it is now, I lose either the new changes or the old changes.

Btw, what good reason is there *ever* to block copy-pasting? This is not the only place where this issue exist in the Mozilla software suite. A quick fix would be to make by default *all* text in the UI copy-pastable, unless there is a very very good reason not to allow it. And no "In Outlook a similar widget would not be copy-pastable either" is *not* a good reason. I use Linux and Thunderbird for a reason, please don't make it similar to Windows and Outlook. If I was satisfied with the Windows/Outlook combo, I'd use it! It's a little bit like democracy and terrorists, if democracy gives up its feedoms, and makes itself similar to a dictatorial regime in order to protect itself from the terrorists, then the terrorists have won. Likewise, if Thunderbird makes itself too similar to Outlook in order to win over some hard core Outlook users, then Outlook has in effect won! Think about it...

Sorry for the rant, but I'm getting the impression that over the years the Mozilla UI gets more and more windowsish, and I don't like that trend.

Btw, please disregard Version chosen above, somehow my Help button (needed to see the real version) is frozen while the error message is up. That too should not happen.

Marked as critical, because in the situation described, it led to data loss.
Does this still reproduce?

Copy-pasting is still blocked in many places.

Example: After clicking on a task, the title of the task in the view below the list is not copy-pastable.

The exact path described above no longer produces this dialog (as Thunderbird rightfully now prevents opening a second editor if one is already open), but a similar issue can be triggered using right-click=>PostponeTask, while an editor for that task is open. In that case, the user cannot use copy-paste to save the task's content while the dialog is up (Bug #1230756)

Sorry, I meant bug #1591685

Antony, can you reproduce?

(In reply to Wayne Mery (:wsmwk) from comment #6)

Antony, can you reproduce?

I created a new task (still find it odd that I can only create a task with a local cal!), then right-clicked to edit, whoch opens up a new tab with that task and I can edit etc so not sure if there is an issue anymore
