FIrst weird thing, under default SMTP I have 4 sets of the same server, they are
not available for deletion. I have tried reinstalling. Maybe in the 091 to 092
upgrade they were created. That's the only out of the ordinary thing.

So I have a Mirapoint as my imap server. I choose to have a copy of my mail sent
to Sent on the server when I send email. What currently happens is I send it, it
churns a little bit and then says "Copying Message to Sent Folder" and stalls
there. Another window poops up and says "The current Command did not succeed.
The mail server responded:Permission denied"

I hit cancel and the mail gets sent but no copy is in sent. So I change it to
send a copy to local folder and all works dandy.

Saving to Sent works fine on netscape 4.7 mail which is what I use. I was
waiting for this 092 because it solves the refresh in subfolder listing issue.

Let me know if I can be of any help.

Thanks,
Ken

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.create email , send email
2.
3.

Actual Results: hang as described before.

Expected Results: mail should be copied to Sent folder on server

I know this works on other peoples systems, so it is something weird to mine.
The only weird thing is 4 copies of default server and they all edit at the same
time

Advanced outgoing server (SMTP) settings looks like this

imop.cisco.com (default)
imop.cisco.com (default)
imop.cisco.com (default)
imop.cisco.com (default)

any edit is reflected in all entries and delete is not a choice when highlighted.
can you attach an imap log showing this error? Directions for creating an imap
log can be found here:

http://www.mozilla.org/quality/mailnews/mail-troubleshoot.html#imap

sounds like the server isn't allowing you to store messages in that folder.
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
I have a similar situation, but a different error message:

"The current command did no succeed. The mail server responded: UID
Invalid parameter: Message-ID"

The message does get copied to the server, but the warning happens everytime.
This is with 6.1 running against a GroupWise 6 server.
I've got the same problem with the 2001082403 win32 build of mozilla.

I've got a workaround for it though,
1. Go into the "Edit|Mail/News Account Settings"
2. Select the "Copies and Folders" option in the tree view
3. Change the "Place a copy in:" from "Sent Folder on:" to "Other"
4. Change other to be the sent folder that you want it to go to

If I had to guess, I would assume that the permission denied comes from the
default "Sent" Folder on: option trying to access the account listed but not
having a/or correct username/password to get to the IMAP folder listing.
I am having the same problems with build 2001092503 on Win2000. But I don't get
an error message from the server. Mozilla just hangs and when trying to cancel
the prosess of copying the message to the Sent folder on the server sometimes
has to be killed via the task manager.
The IMAP server is a Microsoft Exchange server and I am currently using it with
SSL.
As I could see the hang occurs only when trying to send messages with
attachments (at least in my case; I only tried it with .zip-files). Plain
messages get copied to the target folder.
Here is the output of Mozilla's log file (slightly reduced):

Note: The target folder on the server is called "Gesendete Objekte".
Ok, I tried this with Linux (SuSE 7.1, kernel 2.4.10) and it is not working
either. As far as I could see the problem occurs with any kind of attachment.

Some additional information:
When you cancel the copy process, try to close the compose window and choose to
not save the message in the dialog box popping up, Mozilla will hang completely
and has to be killed.
When you save the message instead, you can work on with it. Nevertheless, trying
to copy the saved message (including the attachment) to the folder on the server
by hand does not work either.
As I noticed the error occures sometimes with mails without an attachment, too.
This behavior is rather random.

Despite the fact that Mail/News development is now focussing on performance and
footprint, I would rather have a working replacement for Outlook than a
performant mail frontend which I cannot use correctly as my drafts folder is
getting bigger and bigger and I cannot copy these messages to the server. This
is currently the most annoying bug for me in Mozilla.
I've observed a similar problem w/ Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US;
rv:0.9.6) Gecko/20011120 and previous versions. I'm connecting to an MS Exchange
server, and when I send a message, I get the following sequence

1) A window pops up and says "The current command did not succeed. The mail
server responded: The requested message could not be converted to an RFC-822
compatible format. Please contact your administrator."

2) When I click on the "OK" button for the above message, a second window pops
up saying that the send operation completed, but it was unable to copy the
message to my Sent folder and gives me the option to either go back to the
"compose" window or close it.

3) When I open my Sent folder, I again get the message from #1 above. However,
when look at the list of messages, the message I just sent is in the folder. At
times, it appears to have a corrupted header and has no subject or recipient
listed and the send date is shown as "12/31/1969 06:00 PM". The corrupted header
only happens when the message had an attachment.

Like the original poster, I have my Sent folder on the Exchange server and this
problem goes away if I change it to a folder on my local disk.
I have run into this problem on 0.9.7 and newer, but the workaround posted in comments does work (set the "Sent" folder setting within the Copies & Folders preferences for the IMAP account in question to some local folder then set it back to your desired Sent folder). Also because of this, you must be subscribed to the IMAP sent folder you wish to use.

If this doesn't work, you might try creating a *new* sent mail folder on your IMAP server, and making that be your sent folder.
Another testimonial about this bug, along with some new information about its
size-dependence.
 Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.4b) Gecko/20030501
OS: XP Prof ver: 5.1.2600

My issue is along the same lines and has been around for at least 9 months.

Using IMAP ESP (email service provider)

I compose an email and click send. All looks to be going fine and then I get the
error message:
"The current command did not succeed. The mail server responded: Mail box does
not exist".

Then you get the message indiacting that the email was sent but not copied to
the IMAP folder. It makes no difference if I use SENT ITEMS or another folder on
the IMAP server. It however does work if I have the copy placed onto the local
folder.

Switching on the logging (see my attachment COPY TO IMAP FOLDER ERROR.TXT) I
found this error line from the IMAP server.

388[3086fe0]: 26f3210:www.fastmail.fm:A:SendData: 2 append "INBOX.INBOX^Sent
Items" (\Seen) {793}

To me it looks line it is looking for folder "INBOX.INBOX^Sent Items" and it
should be looking for "INBOX.Sent Items".

I will attach screen dumps of my config as well as this may help in getting to
the bottom of this problem.

Reproducable: Always
Steps:
1. Ensure preferences in "Mail & Newsgroup Account Settings > Mail for (your
IMAP provider address) > Copies and Folders " has radio button Place a copy in
OTHER selected and that it is the IMAP folder chosen.
2. Click on COMPOSE
3. compose email
4. Click send.
5. See error message

More information required then let me know.

I used to have this problem, but adjusted the server (run my own IMAP server on
the home lan). The server setting on Cyrus IMAP is "altnamespace: yes". What
this means is that the server understands that a folder named INBOX/Sent can
also be asked for as "Sent" (no INBOX/ prefix). Once I set this true on the
IMAP server, the problem with sending and failing to save went away.

When I had the problem, I could still view my Sent folder and copy items to/from
it, but the procedure used by auto-saving when I hit send failed. And the above
fixed it.

Speculation (I haven't seen the source code) - the normal file-viewing
operations request INBOX/Sent, but sending tries to copy to Sent, perhaps?

There is a detailed solution in Fastmail.fm documentation of Mozilla Mail&News
account configuration: http://www.fastmail.fm/docs/imap/mozilla.htm#tute2

These instructions completely solved the problem in my case, and are likely to
help others as well.

I just got this bug several times yesterday in Thunderbird (0.5b, 20040201,
IMAP). :(

It _may_ be caused by user selecting other IMAP/Local(?) folder(s) _while_ the
message is being sent. With me, it seems to happen then and/or after prologed
use of TB (i.e., end of day).

PS. I got the _same_ bug when trying to save a draft: Should I add "Draft" to
the subject?

PPS. Is the "assigned to" for this bug still scott's _active_ e-mail? Should
someone reassign this bug to the default owner?

I did the suggestions on that page (verify subscribe and add "inbox." to the adv
settings) and the latter caused my inbox to stop working. I tried both "inbox."
and "#mhinbox" (since that is what is listed under "Personal Namespace" for my
IMAP account, the full string is atually: "#mh/","#mhinbox","" but i din't try
that). I therefore don't think that is the correct solution (nor should users
have to manually enter anything there).

I had this Bug 94430 when using Mozilla 1.5. I have just recently began using
Mozilla 1.6 [Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.6)
Gecko/20040113] and the issue no longer existed for me. After reading
prognathous@hotmail.com's comment, I went to look under the subscribe settings
for my mail accounts. Sure enough, they were setup as prognathous@hotmail.com
descibed. It must have been automatically set by Mozilla 1.6.

Ken Ferguson never responded to comment 1, after opening this bug. 'jeffp' reported in comment 3 what sounded like the same problem. Neither reporter responded to the request for an IMAP log, so who knows what the real problem
is, or was. If either of those reporters cares to state whether there is still a problem on his side, that would be good, I guess.

Comment 8 raises the issue of needing to subscribe the Sent folder -- possibly this is the cause of the original report. This is related to Comment 10's "mailbox does not exist" under Fastmail; that issue addressed by comment 16
and, per comment 19, was apparently fixed somewhere along the way. (FWIW, I opened a Fastmail account around March 2004 and, as far as I can recall, never change the name of my Sent folder from "Sent".)

As far as I can see, every other comment in this bug is about some other problem, perhaps server-specific (Groupwise or Exchange) or size-dependent.

There have been numerous copy-to-IMAP-Sent bugs fixed in recent years, three that I'm aware of between the 1.7 and 1.8 branches. If any other reporter here
is still encountering problems with a current build, I suggest opening a new
bug with details, including server type, any error messages, and an IMAP protocol log.

I have this problem too often, at home and at work, with different mail servers. What do you mean, saying "IMAP protocol log"? How can I produce it?
Really message was successfull saved.
Igor, if you can do this with your trunk build that would be great.

please attach a protocol log file - logging instructions: http://www.mozilla.org/quality/mailnews/mail-troubleshoot.html#imap
NOTE: "imap" must be substituted where you see protocol underlined.

a short test will keep the log file short

no response from Igor, so closing this out. For some people this is WFM. But based on Mike's analysis in comment 20, opting for INCOMPLETE against original reporter(s).
