Description

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/31.0.1650.57 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce:

I created a plain text file using the Google Docs text editor: 400 paragraphs of Lorem Ipsum. Then I downloaded (exported) this Docs text document with conversion to pdf and then I uploaded that pdf file to a web page. (The size is about 40 pages and about 1.6 MB.) I then opened the pdf file using the Firefox 25.0.1 browser on my Ubuntu 12.04 LTS platform with all settings default (so using the Firefox built-in pdf viewer).

Actual results:

The browser almost ground to a halt. It generated messages "A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding ..." on every attempt to scroll. I left it alone for over an hour and the page had still not loaded.

Expected results:

The file should probably have loaded quickly, as it loaded quickly when using the Chrome or the IE9 browser with their built-in pdf viewer. On the other hand, maybe the Google Docs export to pdf generates bad or non-standard pdf; I don't know this. I call it an incompatibility.

Please find this problem described on the Google Docs product forum as well, and links to the original Docs text document and the pdf output may be found in that posting.

The troublesome pdf file (40 pages, 1.6 MB, generated by Google Docs "export to pdf" of a plain Lorem Ipsum text) is here on Dropbox.

2013-12-01-03-02-03-mozilla-central-firefox-28.0a1.en-US.linux-x86_64 slows down at some / fully-rendered pages of the PDF.
Component: Untriaged → PDF Viewer

The pdf is drawing letter by letter by changing the text matrix, this causes us to render slowly and to create way too many divs in the text layer.
