User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:24.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/24.0 (Beta/Release) Build ID: 20131112155850 Steps to reproduce: Thunderbird 24.1.1, I use POP3 - have not tried it on older versions or with IMAP...): a) Receive an email with attachment. b) Reply to the email - now the reply icon displays and "Open Message in Conversation" works, displaying the original and reply as a thread - good. c) From the Inbox, detach the attachment - problems (i) the reply icon is no longer seen, (ii) "Open Message in Conversation" does nothing - it does not seem to think there is a message thread any more. d) From the Inbox, make another reply to the original email - now the reply icon is displayed again, "Open Message in Conversation" works and displays all of the message thread - the original message, 1st reply and 2nd reply - good, it recovered. So the database has not entirely lost the connection of the email thread. It "recovers" the thread connection when a later reply is made. Actual results: At step (c): (i) the purple reply icon is no longer seen, (ii) "Open Message in Conversation" does nothing - it does not seem to think there is a message thread any more. Expected results: (i) The purple reply icon should be displayed (ii) the message thread should be able to be opened, and should display the original message and reply in the thread.

I see (i) which is described in bug 903326, but I don't see (ii) which is partly bug 1015216?
