947729 - Unpredictable results when compacting folders automatically since 24.1.0, disappearing mails, not able to save mails while compacting. Pop, no antivirus

Steps to reproduce:

1. Sending mail, which should have been sent and put into "Sent"-folder. Instead it remained in Drafts. Saw it had to do with automatic compression.

2. Just viewed (as I remember) Sent folder. Compression started and ended with EMPTY folder, that had to be repaired by using "repair msf".


Actual results:

A lot of unforeseen things.


Expected results:

The same as years before - NOTHING.

Hi Wayne,

thanx for your interest. POP. Never used something else. No antivirus or other software, no SPAM-detection or similar things.

Only "mistake" of mine could be running low on disk space for the second problem.

Have disabled automatic compression for now, had a bad feeling since the first error one month ago and now am "shocked" because of having the right feeling that there is something wrong with Thunderbird's core functionality.

By the way: WHY is software development since 10 years nealy only crippling core functionality and inventing useless **** features? A browser with the best UI on the world now gets "redesigned" and gets as ugly as every software on this planet, the developer of "Aero improved" will need months of his life to bring back a normal and beautiful look of this software and maybe never will do the work as it's the work of the main developers. 90s are back. It's a shame. Since 4.0 LibreOffice looks like designed by children having past 20 years of UI development, Microsoft replacing the PERFECT window decoration by flat **** but no "Alt-F4"-customization for 25 years, sometimes one could think developers try to kill all their good inventions from 40 years before, even Thunderbird is changed everytime although Mozilla claimed it would be dead. Okay: Mail is PERFECT, no NEED to "invent" something. Why having changed colors for new mails in folder area? ANY reason? It's just more ugly, a "flat color" now instead of a clear one. Why not only bugfix? Why always do some "things"? Why not giving people the option to undo those "things"? Why not only removing old bugs without bringing in new ones? Why?

Much has changed in 5 years, but per PM Volker does not have plans to update, so closing this incomplete.
