The popup windows on this popular spanish auction site do not work. 0.9.3 as
well as 2001081008 under Linux open a popup window, show the occupied cursor for
a while and close the window again. Netscape 4.77 displays the window correctly.
Reproducible: always
Steps to reproduce:
1. Go to http://www.subastaspc.com/subastas.html
2. Click on of the items displayed on the page.
3. On that particular items page click the small image of the item on the right.
4. A popup window appears ... and disappears.
5. Repeat with Netscape to see it work.
I'm not sure this is the right component, correct me if I am wrong.

Changing platform to All, 0.9.3 and Netscape 6.1 on Windows have the same
problem. IE works fine.

grr, mid-air :-)
confirming with win2k build 20010810..
I get an empty popup window an no content is loaded (works with NS4.7x)
If I close the popup and leave this page i get this in the JS console :
Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code:
0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsIDOMWindowInternal.close]" nsresult:
"0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE)" location: "JS frame ::

The javascript used in the page is of the following form
<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
<!--
var wChild = null;
var wLoaded = false;
function zoompicture(){
wOpen("","Hola",480,480,"yes");
wChild.document.write("<html><head><title>Eizo FlexScan F764
21</title></head><center><img
src=/org-img/original/AWS/651408.jpg></center></body></html>");
}
function wOpen(pURL,pName,w,h,scroll){
xLeft=(screen.width)?(screen.width-w)/2:0;
xTop=(screen.height)?(screen.height-h)/2:0;
xSettings =
'height='+h+',width='+w+',top='+xTop+',left='+xLeft+',scrollbars='+scroll+',resizable'
wChild = window.open(pURL,pName,xSettings);
if(wChild.window.focus){wChild.window.focus();}
wLoaded = true;}
function wClose(){
if (wLoaded){
wChild.close();
wLoaded = false;
}}
//-->
</script>

Still a problem with milestone 0.9.5.
Comment 6•24 years ago

There are a few problems on this page:
1) wChild.document.write("<html><head><title>Compaq Armada 3500
PII300/128/6,4Gb/CD/13,3*TFT</title></head><center><img
src=/org-img/original/AWS/653809.jpg></center></body></html>");
It's lacking a <body> which is the main reason we fail to display the image.
2) <body onFocus="javascript:wClose()">
which tries to close the window, it's not very clear what they're trying to do.
3) Other various nits that probably don't keep us from working.
Evangelism? Parser?

The problem here is that the site never calls document.close() after calling
document.write() so we don't flush what we're asked to parse. We can't make this
work perfectly, but we can make this kinda work by making sure document.write()
written content is flushed if we're done executing the script, or somethign like
that.

Tested this with 2002-09-08 on WinNT. popup window never disapears but it does
not show anything.
SEVERITY = MEDIUM [(1)No Crash but can not surf the site & check items, (2)May
be functional failure, (3)No Cosmetic failure]
VISIBILITY = HIGH [(1) Good real website usage is provided with link. (2)Gets
one point of compatibility with other browsers since it works very well on IE &
NS4.x. (3)Gets one more point on compliance with adopted techonology which is
JS]
PRIORITY = VISIBILITY * SEVERITY
Hence Priority = p2
adding word "qawanted" because I'm setting this priority on available data & if
someone feels otherwise then please investigate this more & feel free to change
this priority.

I just found a similar problem with RC1 for Linux (Debian Woody):
Go to http://www.iesy.de and try to follow one of the two
links at the bottom right. Mozilla gets
javascript:OpenPopUp('6_frameset.html', 'Channels', '520', '420', '10', '10', 'yes')
the mouse pointer changes a sec but nothing happens. Works with
Netscape 4.77 and Konqueror.

Now also works with my Linux CVS build, nice! No idea if they just changed the
site or if we improved error handling somewhere, but marking WORSFORME anyway.
