Currently, there is no option to turn off location bar searching. Mozilla should strive to be a browser free of "nudging" like this - users should be able to use their own search engines without having to be asked to use a search engine that Mozilla endorses. The location bar search should have its own pref so the user can disable it.

It's easy to disable the Search button (Edit > Preferences > Navigator) and I believe the autocomplete search item (Search Google for "whatever") is now optional with a recent checkin for bug 84809.
