There are various way to unlock the lock screen without swipe from center. I've discovered at least two and have show that to Greg. It's quite easy to reproduce with Peak.

1) tap the area right below the handle twice.
2) swipe from the unlock handle to the edge of the screen on the right.

Triage: must fix bug in the canvas implementation.
