Typing a directory when doing "Save As..."

Details
Mouse-clicking to get to a new location to save a file is a fairly slow operation if the user already knows the path. Unfortunately, the current Mozilla isn't being very helpful when it comes to get to a known path by typing. When a directory name is typed into the filename box for "Save As", the new directory is correctly displayed, but the filename box is now empty. It should contain the original filename; the user has specified a location, and the assumption should still be that the user wants to name the file the name the server has given it. When the user specifies a filename with a path (for example ../foodir/bar.html), the assumption should be that the file should be saved in the directory "../foodir" (relative to the current default directory) as "bar.html"; the current Mozilla will not accept such a command unless the path is absolute (i.e. begins with /).

Ok first, please include your build ID when filing a bug report. Not including it is like not knowing the make, model and year of a car being diagnosed for trouble. Anyway, this is the same as bug 55406. It is now fixed, but it didn't make it into the 0.9.3 milestone release. So, you need to get a new nightly version in order to use it. You can get one here: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/nightly/latest/ *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 55406 ***

I'm verifying that a portion of this bug is a duplicate of the other bug. Reporter: you tried to report multiple issues in a single bug, which is a bad idea, this is the consequence. On windows, the common dialog behavior is exactly as you described. Why should an application remember a file name when you've replaced it? While it would be nice, it doesn't make sense. And as the fixed bug reference indicates, there's a way to do what you want. <q class=offtopic> On windows, I can cut the filename, navigate directories, and then paste it, but that's because i don't have a selection clipboard.</q>

Build ID is 2001080104 - stock Mozilla 0.9.3 QFA binary build for Linux. The reason to remember the filename is that I haven't *wanted* to replace the filename... I have specified a storage location. At this point the program needs a file name, and it has one (the one from the original server), but instead it presents you with a blank input field.
