Addon update check does not work with captive portals

I started up my computer in a doctor's office, and found that they had wireless but it required a captive portal. When Firefox came up, it tried to check my addons for compatibility but couldn't because of the captive portal. When I clicked "Cancel", it just kept spinning.
I first tried using links to get through the portal, but it amusingly redirected me to a page saying "java scripting is not available. You need java scripting to gain access." I ended up resorting to running Chrome to get through the portal, at which point Firefox immediately managed to continue (or abort?) the addon update check.
So the bug is either than Firefox doesn't allow canceling that update check, or that the cancellation doesn't work in an obstinate network environment like what you get with a captive portal.

Hi Steve,
I don't have a router with captive portal set up on my environment to test this. But this could have been fixed along the way.
Can you please test this on the latest Firefox release (43.0.4) or latest Nightly (46.0a1, https://nightly.mozilla.org/) and tell me if this still reproduces for you ? When doing this please use a new fresh Firefox profile, maybe also in safe mode (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems).
If this still reproduces I will do more investigations on this.
Thanks,
Cosmin.

If you can still reproduce this, feel free to reopen it and provide the requested information.
Thanks,
Cosmin.
