You should able to use a hlsa color space.

Tweaking bug summary with s/hls/hsl/, to match the version of the acronym that the w3c uses[1] (and what I think (?) is the more common usage).

We must think about how this should be done, and if we should restrict it to hsl only.
Could we enhance the current color picker to select the unit of the picked color ? 
Maybe like we do for color swatches, we can cycle through color unit with a keyboard shortcut when the color picker is activated ?
