Add support 64-bit builds of instantbird as 64-bit computers replace 32-bit computers.

This will especially be important on Linux where Instantbird won't work on 64-bit systems without installing special 32-bit compatibility packages.

Firefox 4.0/Mozilla 2.0 will have supported 64bit builds and breakpad now works for them, so we can consider offering 64 bit builds for Instantbird once we use Mozilla 2.0 (probably for Instantbird 0.3).

We would need more build machines and more disk space on the server and I'm not sure yet if the benefits are worth the costs, but we will consider it.

Hmm...I hadn't considered monetary costs and what not. Maybe put some instructions somewhere on how 64-bit Linux users can get the compatibility layer until Gecko or libpurple drops 64-bit support or until 64-bit computing becomes sufficiently dominant.

In Ubuntu's distros, all they would need to do is use Synaptic or kpackagekit to install ia32-libs. From the command line:

sudo apt-get install ia32-libs

I'm not sure about with other non-Debian based distros.

Isn't ia32-libs installed by default on Ubuntu 64bits? We can add a mention of it in the FAQ on the website.
Even better would be to have Instantbird packaged by default for Ubuntu and Debian of course.

Definitely. :) Actually, I'm using Kubuntu, and I know Kubuntu does not come with ia32-libs. Before I switched to Kubuntu, I tried Ubuntu and I don't think it came with ia32-libs. It's been a little while though.

Just wanted to point out that 1.0 has 64-bit Linux contributed builds (i.e. they are UNSUPPORTED) available at http://ftp.instantbird.org/instantbird/releases/1.0/contrib/
