A way to access recently entered messages in the input field of conversation can be useful sometimes and saves you looking it up and copying it from the conversation view.

Bug 954211 (bio 777), which aims at a command-history seems to be a special case of this bug.

douglaswth made an extension for this: https://addons.instantbird.org/en-US/instantbird/addon/278 (you also can get the history by continually pressing ctrl+z, but that's a bug).

If You mean something like showing older messages in freshly opened conversation, then its exactly the same thing I just wanted to report here as new bug/enhancement...
It could be done with an addon, that will inject customizeable ammount of older messages in new conversations. Of course, those should be somehow separated.
The addon 278 mentioned in comment 1 is not what I mean.

In case this bug is not what i mentioned here, tell me and I will set up a new bug for it.

Since there is an add-on for this (comment #1), I think this is WONTFIX unless there is a good argument why it should be in the core.
