*** Original post on bio 794 at 2011-05-20 13:15:00 UTC *** jsProtoHelper should have an overrideable function to set the buddy icon. Currently I'm thinking for Twitter...the buddy icon should be uploaded after it's changed. Although this is somewhat debatable I suppose whether people would want their Twitter icon set by Instantbird. But that's OK. :)

*** Original post on bio 794 at 2011-05-20 13:27:27 UTC *** So this is possible already by observing the "user-icon-changed" event. Twitter should see this and upload the new icon still -- warping this bug to do that. See http://log.bezut.info/instantbird/110520/#m393
Summary: jsProtos should be able to have a buddy icon set → Twitter should set the user avatar

*** Original post on bio 794 at 2011-05-20 13:30:32 UTC *** If you really want to add some helper code in jsProtoHelper for setting a buddy icon, the only thing I could see would be a function returning the binary data of the current user icon converted to a specified mime type and resized at a specified size. That would hide/share all the image manipulation code.

And the very public nature of twitter compared to IM protocols means you might not want a photo of yourself there, if you have one set in IB.
