IB has two distinct avenues for modifying its visual appearance: "Themes" (selected via the add-on manageer) and "message styles" (selected via Preferences). To avoid confusion these terms should be used consistently.

Therefore, the "Themes" pane in the Preferences is misleadingly titled, as it does not allow theme selection at all.

Maybe calling it "Appearance" would be better? (since not just message styles, but also emoticons are also selected in that pane).

Note that the Add-ons site should be brought into line with the terminology decided upon. As it stands, it doesn't help the confusion of the overloaded term. :)

Also, what on the add-on website are called "Themes" are selected in the add-on manager under "Appearance". This also should be made consistent in one way or another.

Just to give some background/context, when that prefpane was created, I thought we would add there very soon a "Sounds" tab to select sound themes.

If that is still planned, maybe something neutral like 'Customization' would be better?

Closing bugs related to the Instantbird UI as WONTFIX, as the development of the standalone chat client Instantbird has stopped. Instantbird users are encouraged to migrate to Thunderbird. The user interface of instant messaging in Thunderbird will feel familiar, as the Thunderbird IM support started as a fork of Instantbird.
