I usually let IB run in the background and when I open it again, there may be hundreds of messages in a channel. If I open that channel, it would take ~5 seconds (on corei7) to show the content, and even longer in a normal computer. I suggest to show a "loading" message if the time is considerable.

The current development builds and upcoming release don't have this problem anymore. We show a progress bar when it will take a moment to display all of the messages.
