I see these system messages in my twitter timeline for each failed reconnection attempt:
10:45:58 - Your account has been reconnected.
10:45:58 - Your account is disconnected.

Steps to reproduce:
- Have a twitter account attempting to connect through a socks proxy that doesn't accept connections (eg. a closed SSH tunnel).

In the account manager, the error message is "offline" (that could probably be improved a lot!), and I see "connected for a few seconds" flashing very briefly.

In the error console I see some messages like this, but I've no way to tell if they are related or not:
Timestamp: 16/10/12 10:48:17
Error: this.target is undefined
Source File: jar:file:///Applications/Instantbird%20-%20Nightly.app/Contents/MacOS/omni.ja!/components/imConversations.js
Line: 268

(I assume they aren't, but I'm pasting it anyway just in case.)

Maybe the new debug logging will help here?

Bug 1445778 removes support for Twitter due to changes in their streaming API.
