After each update, IB disables the add-on who have set a max limit which was exceeded by the update mentioned in the above line.
Firefox made all the add-ons compatible by default unless the add-on specifies that it follows a strict compatibility.
IB should also follow the same approach.
[1] is the tracking bug for the same. It has all the links to the sub bugs and the feature wiki page, which would help in defining the requirements.

Marking add-ons as compatible by default is a correct behavior only if the add-on websites has code to detect incompatibilities and to notify authors / disable incompatible add-ons.
