In bug 83103 added support for the Windows address book in 2001. This functionality has been there since that time but disabled for all but the few who knew it existed. Bug 85100 has remained open since this time awaiting a UI for this A tick box to enable the WAB / Contacts folder integration. Given that All windows users have a contact folder. That this contacts folder is the basis of most phone syncing software and that the access works on Windows 7 as read / write I think the feature should be enabled by default. Ie the following preferences turned on in the prefs file. user_pref("ldap_2.servers.OE.description", "Outlook Express"); user_pref("ldap_2.servers.OE.dirType, 3); user_pref("ldap_2.servers.OE.position", x); user_pref("ldap_2.servers.OE.uri", "aboutlookdirectory://oe/"); see https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=83103#c3 This is not a dup of Bug 402981. That bug is invalid as it requests features that already exist

I had a vague recollection that the address book only worked in situations where Outlook/WAB was default mail client, i.e. Thunderbird couldn't be the default mail client and have integration enabled.
There are two OS-specific address books on Windows, the Windows address book (also known as the Outlook Express address book) and the MAPI address book (also known as the Outlook address book). I believe it is the MAPI address book that depends on the default email client.
(In reply to neil@parkwaycc.co.uk from comment #2) > There are two OS-specific address books on Windows, the Windows address book > (also known as the Outlook Express address book) and the MAPI address book > (also known as the Outlook address book). I believe it is the MAPI address > book that depends on the default email client. That was my reading of the earlier work, hence this bug not requestion to Outlook integration. I can assure you that Thunderbird is the default client, and that editing in Thunderbird (I corrected an email address) reflected back to the windows 7 contacts folder.
