>>Project/Request Title: Grow Mozilla brand update >>Project Overview: Grow Mozilla brand has been created over a year ago. It has served us well. In light of the chnages around community building and the creation of a new team (Community Building Team) we need to reflect those on the brand and create some new assets. Some relative old bugs: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=713641 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=739731 >>Creative Specs & Deliverables: We would need to phase out some unused creative assets, and builing on top of the existing Grow Mozilla brand (red badge with leaves) create some new ones. Mainly badges to be used as identity in out wiki pages and presentations and some bigger ones to be used as a base for some leaflet/poster designs. >>Launch Date: 2014-01-31 >>Creative Due Date: 2014-01-31 >>Mozilla Goal: Million Mozillians >>Points of Contact: email@example.com
Hi Pierros, Sorry for the delayed response. I'm hoping you can add a bit more detail on what sort and how many new assets you're looking for. I have a couple of follow-up questions to hopefully help get more info. - Would we be starting from scratch or would the current logo with the leaves continue to be used? - What unused assets are you phasing out? Do these need to be replaced or no? If they are, can the existing pieces be repurposed/redesigned to incorporate the red badge to meet your needs? - When you say badge, are you talking about for the Open Badges program or something else? If that's the case, do you have a list of use cases that you'll need badges for? Again, hopefully this will help to get more information, as I'm a little bit unsure of what you're looking for. Additionally, I want to set expectations that January 31st may not be a realistic deadline for this with the work around MWC. We won't be able to confirm this though until we know the full scope of your ask. Thanks!
Hey Jennifer, The current logo with the leaves should stay as is and continue being the main identity. There are some logos we dont use anymore (Brain Builders being an example) that we would be phasing out. No need to replace them. By "badge" I mean visual identity, not an OpenBadge (at least in this first phase). The new identities will be used on our wiki, presentations, one-off merchantise and on any additional creative needs we might have in the future. The new assets will be tied to the new modules/initiatives and structure of the team (under the main Leaves logo). Namely those would be: - Contribution Pathways - Systems and Data - Contribution Recognition and Rewards - Contributors Education (possibly repurposing the old Brainbuilders logo?) - Contribution Pilots Let me know if you need any more info. Thanks!
Hi Pierros, Thanks for this information. I'm still a little bit unclear about how these assets would be used. It seems to me that this list would continue to grow and change and possibly become obsolete as initiatives and team structure change. I'm wondering if instead of creating a brand new asset for each initiative/team, we might simply create a lock-up with the existing logo and a wordmark for each. Does that sound reasonable?
Indeed a lock-up with the existing logo could be a solution. Can we mockup something so I can run it with my team any time soon? Thanks!
Hi Pierros, I'm assigning this over to Ty to help out. One final quick question. Would it be possible to shorten the 5 initiatives? Maybe remove "Contribution" from each?
Sorry, meant to assign to Matt.
(In reply to Jennifer Balaco from comment #5) > One final quick question. Would it be possible to shorten the 5 initiatives? > Maybe remove "Contribution" from each? Strong +1 for this. The current text is too long for a wordmark.
Hey all, Taking a look at this, I'd suggest that there be no new wordmarks locked up for this. Some reasons: - the lockups would be just that, locked graphics that would need to be managed. - as graphics, there is no chance to localize these labels unless we make many, many versions. - we don't sub-brand teams in any other part of the organization and I'm not sure this is an necessary exception for us to create and manage a tiered brand system. My suggestion: - use the logo as the sole graphic (we can offer an SVG version to be friendly with retina). - any tiered team labels other than the overarching "grow mozilla" wordmark be set in live text. - we can offer examples of how to tie the logo to these labels in a mini guide we can add to the one mozilla style guide under a Grow Mozilla section (this will most likely come post-MWC). - this opens up an easier solution to expanding the system. - this allows more freedom when designing posters/wiki pages/presentations/etc. Let me know your thoughts, but this would be my recommendation for going forward. Thanks!
Thanks Sean, I am closing this bug.
