I installed 6.1 over 6.01.  When I opened Mail, many of the folders that 
previously contained many messages are empty.  When I check the file size 
(using Explorer), the file with the folder name (from which the messages 
disappeared) has 0 size.  

Reproducible: Didn't try
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Can't reproduce since the mail is gone! don't know how to bring it back

After installing 6.1, I found several "nstmp" mail folders (temporary???), some 
of them were empty while others had messages that belonged to other folders.  

I consider this bug in the same category as A MAJOR VIRUS.  it obliterated mail 
record of about 3 years!!!!

After viewing other similar complaints posted at various news groups, I think I 
noticed the mail disappearance after running the "compact folders" function.  
But I'm not sure if this was the cause.

How did your 6.0 profile get created? Was it migrated from a 4.x profile or
created by 6.0? Did a folder compaction happen? That's the only way I can
imagine the nstmp files appearing. Or did the folders all disappear the first
time you ran 6.1?

I migrated from 4.7x to 6.0, and then to 6.01 and finally to 6.1.  I think one
of the first things I did after installing 6.1 was to hit the "compact folders"
button.  

The folders have noot actually disappear, they are just empty with no mail in
them.  The *.msf file is there with a size of 2 KB, but the actual mail file has
a size of 0 KB.

sorry for the spam.  making bugzilla reflect reality as I'm not working on these bugs.  filter on FOOBARCHEESE to remove these in bulk.
