>>Project/Request Title:
Data Privacy Day Moz.org Banner
>>Project Overview:
This banner is secondary to the DPD landing page design and FB graphic designs, as there's already a Lightbeam promo on moz.org. So, Matt, if you don't have enough time to do all of them, this is the project that can be sacrificed. I am also checking with Jen Bertsch to make sure that there would be enough time to update moz.org by Privacy Day. If she says there's not, I will withdraw this bug.
>>Creative Specs & Deliverables:
Use Moz.org homepage banner specs.
This banner would link to the DPD landing page and would use the hero graphic in Bug 959373.
It would use the copy in Bug 957095, with the headline (Mozilla Stands for Privacy) and the CTA, "Find out how to protect your privacy online", with a link to the DPD landing page.
LMK if there's questions. I will also add this to the copy bug to have Troy align the copy with our other efforts.

Hey Matt! Matej is going to look at updating the copy of the current Lightbeam banner for Privacy Day, so no design is needed.
So this is now a copy bug!

Hey Jen! Copy is done and ready to be implemented on mozilla.org.
Here's the final copy:
CLOSED STATE
International Privacy Day
OPEN STATE - HEADLINE
See how we put your privacy first
COPY
From Do Not Track to Lightbeam, we’re always striving to give you more control over your user data.

Hi Craig and Mike-
Could you please update the lightbeam banner on the homepage with this copy along with the push for the privacy day landing page?
:)
Thanks,
Jen

I thought the idea here was the reuse the Lightbeam promo we're currently running. If that's the case, it seems really confusing not to have the copy and link be about the add-on. It makes it look like the Lightbeam logo is our International Privacy Day graphic, which it isn't. Why the change in focus here?

I was just chatting with Jen and it sounds like she had the same expectations I had regarding this promo. The way this was pitched to me last week was that we would simply change the copy, but not the graphic or the CTA (because we didn't have enough design resources). If I had known the CTA would be changing, I would have advised against it. It's not a great user experience to go from something Lightbeam branded to something Privacy Day branded.
I strongly recommend using Troy's original copy instead. Otherwise we should try to get the design updated or consider pulling this promo.

Troy, could you share the original text you had for this? Thanks.

I think it was this:
CLOSED STATE
International Privacy Day
OPEN STATE - HEADLINE
See how we put your privacy first
COPY
For International Privacy Day, take control of your user data with the Lightbeam add-on for Firefox.
CTA
Install the Lightbeam add-on

Lizz- I'd prefer to use this original text and point to the Lightbeam add-on page. Can we move forward with that plan? We are really out of time to make a good promo to point to the privacy day page.

One other thing I noticed is that it says "International Privacy Day" in this bug, but if I'm not mistaken it's actually called "Data Privacy Day."
Let's make sure we're calling it the right thing throughout our materials and media. Thanks.

There's concern from Product Marketing about specifically calling out Lightbeam w/ DPD so I think it would be preferable to either get the design updated or pull the promo. I would like to get Laura's input though before making a final decision.
Laura, based on our conversation earlier about promoting Lightbeam during DPD, can you confirm that it's preferable to either pull the moz.org promo banner update OR update the design, rather than using the current design and this copy:
CLOSED STATE
Data Privacy Day
OPEN STATE - HEADLINE
See how we put your privacy first
COPY
For Data Privacy Day, take control of your user data with the Lightbeam add-on for Firefox.
CTA
Install the Lightbeam add-on

Thanks, Lizz.
To be clear, the options at this point for the mozilla.org homepage are:
1. leave the lightbeam promo on the homepage as it is now, with the current text
2. update the text on the lightbeam promo to reference Privacy Day and still point the promo to the lightbeam download page
We are out of time (and really have been all along due to the Engagement work week and the late start of discussing this specific change to the homepage) to design a brand new promo tile for the homepage that has such a short life span.

Thanks for the clarification, Jen. Let me just check in with Laura and I'll get back to you ASAP.

Seems odd to point it to Lightbeam in light of (heh) launching a much more relevant landing page that also includes Lightbeam.
To increase integration, help campaign traction, and decrease exposure to Lightbeam (which has received negative feedback), I suggest going with Option #2 in comment 12 + changing the link to point to this new page that was created.

Hi Laura-
Agreed that the ideal solution would be to point a privacy day homepage promo tile to the privacy day landing page. However, that isn't an option.
The privacy day landing page is a late addition to the game plan, and therefore we ran out of time to create a privacy day tile for the homepage.
The compromise was to update the lightbeam promo tile to reference privacy day but still point it to lightbeam. Unfortunately, I don't think it makes sense to point a lightbeam-branded homepage promo tile to the privacy day landing page. What you are suggesting really isn't an option.
I can add a not very satisfactory third option, so the full list would be:
1. leave the lightbeam promo on the homepage as it is now, with the current text
2. update the text on the lightbeam promo to reference Privacy Day and still point the promo to the lightbeam download page
3. remove the lightbeam promo from the homepage all together and replace it with one that points to the mission page
Thx,
Jen

Hi all,
Since Lightbeam is already on the homepage, and it's also part of the CTA content, it seems OK to highlight it for Privacy Day. (i.e. Jen's Option #2 in Comment 15). Is the concern that associating it with Data Privacy Day would draw more attention to it than it's already getting by being on the homepage? Would the Privacy Day highlight be up for just that day, and then would it return to the existing Lightbeam promo?

Apologies, jumping in here a bit late.
Thanks for detailed explanation. Sounds like the best option is Option 2 in comment 15 and it sounds like Stacy and the privacy team are good with that suggestion so we should roll with that.

Thanks, Kristin.
Mike and Craig - Let's please move forward with "update the text on the lightbeam promo to reference Privacy Day and still point the promo to the lightbeam download page" using this text:
CLOSED STATE
Data Privacy Day
OPEN STATE - HEADLINE
See how we put your privacy first
COPY
For Data Privacy Day, take control of your user data with the Lightbeam add-on for Firefox.
CTA
Install the Lightbeam add-on
We'll revert back to the current text the following week.
