You'll notice that there is a panel open which points to nothing if you install https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/next-1/ and then customize the add-on's button by adding it to the hamburger panel, then click the button.
There is no way we can know that you're opening a panel in the click handler; you should set noautoclose on the button in order to prevent the panel from closing, or (better:) use a subview when the button is in the hamburger menu.
