Details
xipd is the DNS server powering xip.io, which is a very cool dns service. You go to the domain jon.127.0.0.1.xip.io, and the DNS address returned will be A 127.0.0.1 . This is perfect for running the make-valet locally.

I may be out of a the loop a little, but was wondering if you could explain the use case for this for me? Is this just for local dev?

Yep, just for local dev. But it needs to run remotely for local dev :)
