The subviews seem to be a bit transparent and the widgets can be seen behind the subview. It looks a bit weird to have for example the cut/copy/paste controls behind the subview header.

Whether this is unwanted, is up to UX, really. Henceforth asking Stephen for feedback!

FWIW this appears only behind the header and the footer.
No, I clearly see this behind all subview content.
Mike, you might want to use -moz-field instead of that rgba color.

Tim, thanks for the suggestion. I will use that indeed IF Stephen thinks that the subview transparency is a bad thing.

Well, -moz-field actually fixes high contrast issues.

If we use this we should ensure that we use a theme-based foreground color, too. If we don't use this then we should ensure we're using a fixed foreground color. The former is ideal from a compatibility perspective as regards windows themes.
Unless Windows is worse than OS X, this seems pretty hard to notice. P4.

It is pretty hard to notice, but making it completely opaque would be fine.

It's most noticable when the button opening the submenu is in the left column, as the submenu is then covering the other two columns.
By default, that's the case for the Developer-submenu.
