Details

Many ISPs that I know require POP authentication before one can send e-mail from
that IP address. Apparently the smtp authenticationwhich Mozilla does today is
not the same, as sending mail does not work until I manually checked my e-mail
via POP.

So the request would be: Implement automatic POP before SMTP authentication.
Many good e-mail programs support it today.
I think is interesting putting this summary in bug 81387
