>>Project/Request Title: PyCon 2014 Creative Assets >>Project Overview: Mozilla is a Silver sponsor of PyCon 2014 , and there is the opportunity to have a 1/6 page ad, and a 12'x2' hanging banner at the event. PyCon has several editions around the world, but this edition is the main, most popular one, and attracts lots of attention. We planning on having a significant contingent of Mozillians attending, running a variety of desktop and FxOS related demos, as well as a bootcamp (Mozilla Science Lab), and we should take advantage of the chance to promote our presence and begin conversations between Mozillians and attendees. We will likely also be participating in a Job Fair portion of this 6 day event, so any additional signage and branding to catch the eye of potential hires/community members is a good thing. https://us.pycon.org/2014 >>Creative Specs & Deliverables: 2 deliverables: - one (1) vertical ad: 1/6 page, 2.075"(w) x 4.5" (h). Bitmaps: JPG/PNG/TIFF acceptable, Vector: EPS and AI also acceptable. PDF acceptable but not encouraged. Would need to be delivered to event coordinator Feb 1. See details here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ld4v48p81v6gqpm/PyConUS_ad_guide.pdf - one (1) 12' x 2' horizontal banner, grommets across the top for hanging. This would need to be sent to Staples for printing, I'm currently waiting on a quote from them to determine the deadline for providing this artwork. The design here could easily be a version of the "Doing good is part of our code" design (file attached to this bug). >>Launch Date: 2014-04-09 >>Creative Due Date: 2014-02-01 >>Mozilla Goal: All >>Points of Contact: firstname.lastname@example.org
Created attachment 8364607 [details] Firefox_sponsorshipAd_5.5x4.25.pdf Can rework this design into the banner.
Regarding the vertical ad, general Mozilla branding is fine, or the Firefox logo - the Mozillians attending represent a variety of project areas.
Hi Robyn, Can you let me know more about the timing on these, since the event is not until April? I understand that they are asking for the ad by February 1, but we may need some flexibility on this date. We are a bit swamped right now with requests for MWC right now.
I have a couple of additional questions about the direction for these to assets: - Do we have an overarching goal for our sponsorship? I know we're showcasing several different products, but what do we want to end up getting out of this? This might help my answers for the rest of my questions. For the banner: - I'm not sure that the Doing Good is Part of Code is the right message for the vertical banner at a developer event. The answer to the above question will help figure out what's right? - Can we resize one of the existing banners from bug 884992? For the ad: - What should the focus of the ad be, since we're showcasing several different products/initiatives? - Is the ad online or print? - Is it a 4C ad or a black and white ad (if printed)? - What's the CTA (for online)? Sorry to bombard you with questions, but I think this just needs a little bit more information before we jump in. Thanks!

The overarching goal for Developer Engagement specifically it to support the large number of attending Mozillians, so for this event, we are providing the resources for the individual groups to achieve their own separate goals. Overarching for us would be exposure for Mozilla and everything we do - which is not very helpful to you, but IMO we need to keep it very broad, an recognizable. Basically to show Mozilla has a presence, and we're there for attendees to interact with, no specific CTA. > > For the banner: > - I'm not sure that the Doing Good is Part of Code is the right message for > the vertical banner at a developer event. The answer to the above question > will help figure out what's right? > - Can we resize one of the existing banners from bug 884992? Potentially: https://bug884992.bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=777193 or https://bug884992.bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=777190 would work well, the Firefox one over the Mozilla one as the logo is so recognizable, but I am not sure if these assets are complete (I don't see any updates on these two in the bug, only on the Firefox OS assets). The thing is that the banner needs to be horizontal, not vertical, so there's still some tweaking involved here. > > For the ad: > - What should the focus of the ad be, since we're showcasing several > different products/initiatives? > - Is the ad online or print? N/A > > Sorry to bombard you with questions, but I think this just needs a little > bit more information before we jump in. > > Thanks! No problem! My fault for not being clearer. Also I've pinged the organizer about flexibility on the due date for the print ad - their original wording was pretty strong, so my guess it's unlikely, but I'll update the bug when I hear back definitively.
Thanks Robyn. We've created some new styles specifically aimed at developers lately. Perhaps we should use something related to MDN or the developer program then? You know the audience better than I, but it seems like being more specific might be more useful and might give this banner a larger shelf life. Am copying Rob on this, since he's been part of those other projects. Mr Nyman, any thoughts?

Mr > Nyman, any thoughts? I don't know the main objectives for sponsoring here, and if Pyton developers would be the main target (at least initially for the Developer Program). But from my perspective, bringing more awareness around both MDN and the Developer program can't be a bad idea. And since we should have the new glyph for Developer program in place then, it will probably draw more attention than a browser logo.
+1 to Robert's +1s. I'm definitely on board with using the new Developer Program, it would be a good fit here as far as audience and generating attention.

Thanks, Robyn. We'll focus on the new Developer Program in the ad and for the banner and aim to have something final by the 10th. Assigning this over to Matt. Matt, the new Developer Program glyph can be found in bug 949648 or from Sean. They are just waiting on one final approval.

Hi all. Given that the Developer Program glyph is still a work in progress, how should we approach this one? Rob or Robyn, any thoughts?
(In reply to John Slater from comment #11) > Hi all. Given that the Developer Program glyph is still a work in progress, > how should we approach this one? Rob or Robyn, any thoughts? Could we use the sticker design that Sean did for MWC this time around? That will work for stickers, but it depends on what other material we want to have as well.

It's really your call. Certainly fine with me from a visual perspective.
Yeah, what I meant was, I believe those will be great for stickers, and recommend having them! But I don't know what the main objective with sponsoring is, so I guess Robyn can say.
That sticker design would be great. It's a general developer focus, and this would be completely relevant. Can we implement that design as the basis for the ad and the banner?
Sounds good to me. Matt, please let us know if you have any questions.
I think I should be good to get started. Looks like we are using the new MDN style for both the full banner and the vertical ad? I've recently created a few promo ads for MDN using a few headlines...thought that this could be a good time use them for both the banner and the ad? The headlines are: 'Open docs for an open web' 'Docs by developers for developers' 'Better docs for a better web'
Hi all, I've posted a few examples of what I am thinking could work for the large scale horizontal banner as well as the smaller vertical print ad. The creative is mostly leveraged from the sticker example that was posted. However I am wondering if these should have a headline to give a greater impact to the creative? Wondering what your thoughts are on this. Thanks, Matt
Thanks Matt. Looks like a good start, but I agree that some messaging here would make the banners stronger. Rob or Robin, what do you think? And if you agree, what should it say?
I think they look good! Could we use the CTA from the banners on Stack Overflow (http://stackoverflow.com/r/mozilla) with "Sign up for our Developer Program". A note on the http://mzl.la/DevProgram link there: right now that's exclusive for MWC so we can track how many people from there visit that URL and sign up for the Program. Please use http://mzl.la/DeveloperProgram for now instead.

Thanks Robert, I've attached the updated banners layouts using the sign up CTA as well as the new URLs. One thing you will notice on the two smaller print ads is, I have included one without the 'http://' to allow the URL to be bumped up a few sizes...wanted to put that in as an option. Let me know what you think. Thanks, Matt
Thanks Matt, looks good! I don't really have any strong preference on whether to include http:// or not - naturally it's cleaner and allows a larger font without, but seeing it in there (at least for me) has a slightly stronger connection to a URL/somewhere to go to. So either/or works for me.
We usually keep the http:// out of print materials - would recommend we follow that policy here as well.
These look GREAT guys! Please let me know when the print-ready files are good to go.
Thanks guys. I have the print ready assets ready to post in the bug using the shorter URL. One last thing, can we decide which of the 2 smaller vertical banners we would like to go with, v1 or v2?
I personally prefer v2, I feel like it stands out more, but I'll defer to John on this.
I actually prefer v1, fwiw.
Works for me! :) Rob? Thoughts?
Either one goes for me (meaning: v1 :-))
Created attachment 8374872 [details] MDN_Pycon_banner_2x12ft_PRINT.ai Thanks guys. I've attached two print ready Illustrator files. One being the (v1) vertical banner. Let me know if there are any problems with these. Matt
Fantastic. Thank you Matt!
Going to go ahead and resolve since all assets have been delivered. Thanks, Matt!
