The font binary for the example font, Bitstream Vera Bold is broken in IE9-10. To reproduce, visit the live sample page (https://mdn.mozillademos.org/files/2469/webfont-sample.html) in IE9-10 and note that the default serif font is being shown instead of Bitstream Vera Serif Bold.

Confirmed it was the VeraSeBd.ttf file itself that caused the problem by using a different TTF font with the same code. The Vera Serif Bold download from FontSquirrel is broken similarly, possibly same binary.

The demo page looks to have been updated since this bug was opened, linking now to https://mdn.mozillademos.org/files/7775/webfont-sample.html. The Vera Serif Bold web font does appear to be rendering correctly here. Seems like this can be closed.

Update - spoke too soon. Checking it in IE11, font does not render and this error is in the console,

CSS3114: @font-face failed OpenType embedding permission check. Permission must be Installable.
