Attached patch Patch — — Splinter Review
I think we should improve the UI for installing apps. The current one looks too basic and I think popup notifications aren't the best way to show installation progress and to allow launching apps when they are installed. My proposal is to handle installations like downloads, but without history support (so we would only show the current installations). Allowing to pause/resume installations would be great (so that a big download doesn't have to finish in a single session). I'm attaching a proof of concept patch, let me know what you think (not about the code, that is messy, but about the UX).

Comment on attachment 8365685 [details] [diff] [review] Patch Marco and I discussed this yesterday, and our general conclusion is that this would a good idea if the entry in the downloads list behaved like an entry for a native that you download and then install: i.e. the entry corresponds to a file in the filesystem that is an installer or package (depending on the OS), such that you can launch the installer (or install the package), copy it from system to system, and otherwise treat it like the installer for a native app.

Per bug 1238079, we're going to disable the desktop web runtime and remove it from the codebase, so we won't fix these bugs in the integration between Firefox and the runtime.
