+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #725905 +++ The Firefox video page has been orphaned and unmaintained. http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/video/ We have to decide how to deal with that page on the legacy PHP side. I think there are two options: A) Remove the page from mozilla.org and redirect the URL to the Firefox channel on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/firefoxchannel B) Create a new video page on Bedrock. We could use the YouTube API to integrate content from Mozilla's official channels: http://www.youtube.com/mozilla http://www.youtube.com/mozillians http://www.youtube.com/firefoxchannel http://www.youtube.com/firefoxmarketplace http://www.youtube.com/mozhacks http://www.youtube.com/MozillaWebmakers https://developers.google.com/youtube/getting_started Videos are good tools for engagement so I personally prefer the option B to revitalize that page, but it will take some time to design and implement. Any other ideas?
Note that Mozilla has its own Video CDN http://videos-cdn.mozilla.net/uploads/ but nowadays more and more videos are uploaded to YouTube.
There's also Air Mozilla https://air.mozilla.org/ though it's a project-oriented site. Anyway, Mozilla's video content is widely dispersed. There's no link from mozilla.org to YouTube nor Air Mozilla, so it's difficult for users to find those useful content...
Thanks Kohei. Am copying Michaela, who manages our social channels (including YouTube). Michaela, please read through this bug and let us know what you think. Would be great to make sure that the content on this (now very old) /videos page is captured in our YouTube channel. And, would also be great to hear any thoughts you might have about how we should handle this stuff going forward. Kohei raises a lot of good points.
Hi John and Kohei and Team, I would love for every video we have to be captured on YouTube. Essentially, our YouTube page needs a pretty major overhaul and we have been resource strapped for making this a P1. Vision is to have multiple playlists that users can subscribe to (that make a lot of sense to users), and also include older videos as a part of this for documentation purposes. Copy needs a big overhaul as well, on every existing video, and I'd like to eventually host a training for everyone with access to the account on how to target videos and use SEO with descriptions and annotations. If anyone on this bug is interested in helping to work on this, that would be amazing. Let me know. Thanks, Michaela
Hi Michaela- If we can provide someone just to upload the existing videos, with existing titles and descriptions, on /video to YouTube, would that be a helpful first step? We are working toward deleting all the content on the server where the /video page lives now. Thanks, Jen
Got it. Does Mozilla have all of the actual files? I'm cc-ing Sabina who supports Firefox social media at Nobox, who I'm hoping can manage the uploading into an "Oldies but Goodies" style playlist. We'll just need all of the files.
Hello Sure, if you have all these old videos with titles & descriptions, I could go ahead & upload them to the YouTube channel into an ''Oldies but Goodies'' (digging that name Michaela) playlist. Send them over once you have everything :)
Hi Kohei- Where do the videos live on the servers now? Is there somewhere we could put the videos where Sabina can easily access them? Rainer and Spencer - Do you have a good workflow for this? :)

The easiest way to get all of the videos listed on http://mozilla.org/firefox/videos/ might be to download them manually. Each video has a download link in several formats (you'd probably only need one format to upload to YouTube) next to the video when selected. If it's helpful to whoever handles the YouTube uploading, I might be able to get the list of video URLs in a text file, or the URLs/titles/descriptions in a spreadsheet. Of course, if Rainer or someone else has higher quality originals, we should definitely use those instead.
Thanks Steven, Sabina will be responsible for uploading the videos, and it will be wonderful to get the list of the URLs in a text file or spreadsheet. It would be very helpful :). Michaela
(In reply to mthayer@mozilla.com from comment #10) > Sabina will be responsible for uploading the videos, and it will be > wonderful to get the list of the URLs in a text file or spreadsheet. I've created a document listing the category, title, description, and the various format video URLs for each video on mozilla.org/firefox/videos: https://gist.github.com/sgarrity/8708194 Also, here's a plain text list of just the MP4 URLs for the 25 videos: http://videos-cdn.mozilla.net/serv/marketing/firefox4/FF4_Jess3Features_VO_1.mp4 http://videos-cdn.mozilla.net/serv/marketing/firefox4/WN-Desktop-V2_640.mp4 http://videos-cdn.mozilla.net/serv/marketing/firefox4/uioverview640.mp4 http://videos-cdn.mozilla.net/serv/marketing/firefox4/Cutting-Edge-640.mp4 http://videos-cdn.mozilla.net/firefox/3.6/getpersonas.mp4 http://videos-cdn.mozilla.net/serv/marketing/firefox4/Firefox4UpgradeCampaign/FX4PC.mp4 http://videos-cdn.mozilla.net/serv/marketing/firefox4/Firefox4UpgradeCampaign/FX4Mac.mp4 http://videos-cdn.mozilla.net/serv/marketing/Firefox5/AddOnsBuilderOverview.mp4 http://videos-cdn.mozilla.net/serv/marketing/Firefox5/AddOnsBuilderTutorial.mp4 http://videos-cdn.mozilla.net/serv/marketing/696470/FF%20576%20h264%20v6.mp4 http://videos-cdn.mozilla.net/serv/marketing/firefox4/Mobile-launch-greatday640.mp4 http://videos-cdn.mozilla.net/serv/mobile/Tablet-UI_9thDraft-RC-SD1 640.mp4 http://videos-cdn.mozilla.net/serv/marketing/firefox4/WN-Mobile-640.mp4 http://videos-cdn.mozilla.net/serv/marketing/firefox4/FoxySync640.mp4 http://videos-cdn.mozilla.net/serv/marketing/firefox4/Sync-Instructions-640.mp4 http://videos-cdn.mozilla.net/serv/marketing/firefox4/Mobile-Addons-640.mp4 http://videos-cdn.mozilla.net/serv/mobile/firefox-home.mp4 http://videos-cdn.mozilla.net/serv/mobile/firefox-home-mini-2.mp4 http://videos-cdn.mozilla.net/serv/mobile/firefox-mobile.mp4 http://videos-cdn.mozilla.net/serv/mobile/meetFFXmobile2-640x360.mp4 http://videos-cdn.mozilla.net/serv/mobile/Firefox_Android_invite2.mp4 http://videos-cdn.mozilla.net/brand/Mozilla_Firefox_Manifesto_v0.2_640.mp4 http://videos-cdn.mozilla.net/serv/marketing/firefox4/Army-of-awesome_final.mp4 http://videos-cdn.mozilla.net/serv/firefoxlive/meetthecubs.mp4 http://videos-cdn.mozilla.net/serv/webmademovies/Moz_Doc_0329_GetInvolved_ST.mp4
Hello Steven, All these videos are already on the Firefox YouTube channel with tiles, descriptions & tags. I have included all the URLs below. The only 2 videos of the whole list that we don't already have in the channel are the last two I listed. These 2 videos are already on YouTube but under other channels (not sure how those people had access to these videos & uploaded them). If you wish, I can upload those 2 videos that are missing to our Firefox channel. But I need to know how to download them from this Gist site because I don't see any ''download'' button. Usually Firefox sends me the videos through WeTransfer. But I need to know how to download them from this Gist site because > I don't see any ''download'' button. Usually Firefox sends me the videos > through WeTransfer. I'm not sure we need to bother re-uploading these two, but if you do want to, right-click on the link to the video in the Gist page (https://gist.github.com/sgarrity/8708194) and choose "Save Link As..." Let me know if you have any trouble.
Hello Steven It worked. I decided to upload the ''What is Mozilla?'' video. The other video I don't think we need to re-upload it to YouTube since there is there is the original Mozilla version + more than 15 videos of different users about the same subject. This is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNzKGCv2qac
I've created a pull request (https://github.com/mozilla/bedrock/pull/1643) to redirect /firefox/video (any any sub-URLs to youtube.com/firefoxchannel

Thanks for the quick review pmac. I should have also included this patch, to remove some of the redundant old video page redirects from the PHP site .htaccess file.

So basically we are moving all videos to YouTube, and replace the current and future videos on mozilla.org with the embedding code or API? It might be good for localizers since YouTube offers captioning tools.
Patches applied to trunk in r124410, tags/stage in r124411, and tags/production in r124412. Thanks.

Michaela: Do you want to have a link to YouTube on the footer of each page? Currently there's no link from www.mozilla.org to YouTube, though a redirect from /firefox/video/ has been set up.
