(Whiteboard: [bugday-20140203])

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:26.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/26.0 (Beta/Release) Build ID: 20131205075310 Steps to reproduce: Type anywhere -- text box, URL, you name it. Text will be underlined as you type, regardless of the setting of the "check spelling as you type" option. Actual results: The annoying spell checker is activated. Far worse, hitting the tab key to go to the next form field doesn't do so; instead it replaces the last-typed word with a random selection from the supposed list of corrections. Nothing like typing my own e-mail address and having "edu" corrected to "du". Expected results: What's disabled ought to be DISABLED! (And yes, I tried toggling the setting, and I looked under "spell" in about:config.)
Sounds like you have some other program doing it to all fields. Does it happen in other GTK programs?

Got me. Can you suggest a GTK program to test?
Flags: needinfo?(geoff)
I can't. Anyway, Firefox does not check spelling in the URL bar or search field by default… Have you tried with a new profile or in safe mode? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode GTK https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GTK%2B is used by GNOME, I think at least programs for GNOME 2 are based on a version of GTK similar to what Firefox uses.
Hi Geoff, Are you still having this issue in newer versions of Firefox?

Closing due to lack of response from the reporter. If this is still a pertinent issue, please reply with the information required. Thanks!
